Overview
On February 9th NJROTC cadets from Carolina Forest High School, North Myrtle Beach High School, and Conway High School made their 2 hour drive to Patriots Point in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. These 3 schools stayed overnight in the USS Yorktown, a boat used in WWII and the Vietnam War. The three attending schools participated in a brain ball which is an academic competition. Cadets were given the opportunity to explore the USS Yorktown and the USS Laffey.
Physical Training
The next day cadets woke up at 5AM to do physical training. The physical training was led by the Officers in Charge from Carolina Forest, North Myrtle Beach, and Conway. Cadets were challenge during the physical training and were able to learn and experience new exercises from other schools. Once physical training was over cadets were given breakfast and then more time to explore.
Fight Academy
After cadet’s were done exploring they were seperated in three groups and then were put in pairs of two. Before flight academy started cadet’s were brought into a classroom to learn about the background of USS Yorktown and the background of different wars that the USS Yorktown was involved in. Once the brief was over cadets were brought to multiple monitors where they would use a computer simulation and learn how to navigate a plane. Cadet’s were required to fly through obstacles and then land their plane safely on the ground.
