Overview
A remarkable feat was accomplished by Carolina Forest High School's Rifle Team at the 2024 Navy National Service Championships in Anniston, Alabama on February 14th, 2024. Rifle Team Members Joshua Young and Gwenyth Fougere shot as Individual for the Rifle Competition. Joshua Young was selected as a Competitor by the Area 7 Manager based on a combined score from the Area 7 Rifle competition competing against over 20 High Schools. Gwenyth Fougere was selected for the Rifle Competition for the Nation by JROTC Postal based on her qualified scores in the National Competition.
On Day 1, Young and Fougere showed their determination and perseverance by taking an early lead with an impressive score for the Top Athletic Marksman in the Nation for Navy JROTC.
On Day 2, the Carolina Forest Rifle Team was more focused than ever on winning. This was a testament to the hard work, dedication, and teamwork of the Carolina Forest High School Rifle Team.
The Carolina Forest Rifle Team Members earned points during the two matches for their Junior Distinguished Marksman Badge. Both Athletics were Dressed in Blue Military Cargo Pants and a Carolina Forest Rifle Pullover, Athletics loaded a smooth, silver pellet into the competition rifle. Both prepared to take their final shots in the kneeling position, as they inhaled and exhaled evenly, not letting the nerves of the Competition get to them. Cadet Young and Fougere exceeded their own personal and school records.
The Civilian Marksman Program State Championship/Horry County Rifle Competition was held on Feb. 23-24, 2024, at Carolina Forest High School. Chief Thompson, The Rifle Coach of Carolina Forest High School ran the Competition with Electronic scoring instead of paper targets for live results. As a result of the hard training with the Rifle Team, Carolina Forest High School won 1st Place with a Combined score of 2002-50, 2nd Place Summerville High School – Team A, and 3rd Place Summerville High School- Team B. Cadet Joshua Young, the Rifle Team Commander led his team to victory as #1 Marksman. Cadet Gwenyth Fougere is a rising cadet as a Sophomore and #2 Marksman in the Civilian Marksman Program State Championship and Horry County Rifle Championship competition
